Sweden
Visit Sweden if you like fika - coffee and pastry breaks!
October 27, 2026
I loved Sweden's archipelagos, forests, design, and the daily coffee break.
You should go if:
You like design, coffee breaks, and quiet nature
You want island hopping close to a capital
You are traveling in winter for the aurora or an ice hotel
Must-visit places:
Stockholm: Gamla Stan, the Vasa Museum and the archipelago
Gothenburg: Seafood, canals and a relaxed feel
Visby, Gotland: A medieval walled town on a Baltic island
Abisko and Swedish Lapland: Aurora viewing, and the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi
Malmö: Modern architecture, close to Copenhagen - worth crossing the longest under- and over-bridge.
Must-try foods:
Köttbullar: Meatballs with lingonberry jam
Gravlax and herring at a smörgåsbord
Kanelbullar: Cinnamon buns
Prinsesstårta: the green marzipan cake
Fun facts:
"Fika" means a coffee-and-pastry break, and it is a daily habit.
Sweden's right of public access (allemansrätten) lets you walk and camp on most land.
IKEA, H&M and Spotify all started in Sweden.
